Publisher's Synopsis
This volume examines various facets of British-French cultural relations from the 8th to the 16th century. The core of the volume is concerned with the central Middle Ages, and includes a study of Henry of Huntingdon's reaction to Geoffrey of Monmouth's "Historia" in the "Letter to Warinum" and an examination of the influence of Arthurian myths on French nationalism. There is also considerable space devoted to the part played by the Crusades in the relationship between the countries.;On the periphery of the period there is a study of manuscripts of the works of Origen in 8th-century France, and a 17th-century playwright's view of the relations between Elizabeth and Essex.
