Publisher's Synopsis
This design guide brings to the attention of project engineers all the required background information, based on a critical analysis of the state-of-the-art. After an initial phase of characterization and behaviour studies of carbonate soils, research mainly concentrates on the study of the behaviour of axially loaded piles.;The results obtained, compared with numerous data from actual structures, are used to propose various design rules for driven and drill-grouted piles in carbonate formations. The research also leads to the development of a driven-grouted pile process making for a considerable improvement in the bearing capacity of driven piles. The recommendations laid down in this volume will help geotechnical engineers to solve the difficult challenges involved in installing foundations in carbonate formations and should help to improve the safety of offshore structures.
