Publisher's Synopsis

A case study of one of the few timber-rich forests in West Africa which remained unlogged until recently, where observations on plants before the first bout of logging are compared with the regeneration observed after it. The study indicates many ways to reduce the impact of logging, whilst highlighting the vigour of natural regeneration in many components of the logged forest. This report will be of interest not only to foresters, conservationists, ecologists and loggers, but to those with an interest in the impact of using mahogany and other tropical timbers on the future of tropical forests.
