Sometimes it is hard to wrap our brains around the concept of unconditional love. We learn at a very young age that the acceptance and approval we long for often comes at a price. If we perform to a certain standard, we might receive the nurturing and loving responses that help us to like ourselves. We receive praise and admiration for behaving a certain way, for achieving certain goals, for saying the right thing, or for giving the right amount.
