Publisher's Synopsis
The contributions collected in the volume show and discuss the causes and consequences of the Fiume expedition which, prepared by various political and intellectual forces, began on 12 September 1919 and ended only during the "bloody" Christmas in 1920. In the sixteen months of the occupation lead by Gabriele D'Annunzio, Fiume became the melting pot of the most disparate and contradictory aspirations: it was an experiment of political, social and cultural coexistence with exciting implications for that period.
