The Fishhook Gas pool is located mainly in Pike County but extends into Adams County (ts. 3 and 4 S Rs. 4 and 5 W.) and is about 11 miles north and slightly west of Pittsfield, county seat of Pike County. It is about 20 miles from the Mississippi River, which is the western Illinois boundary, and is about 70 miles northwest of the boundary of the principal oil and gas producing part of Illinois (fig. Thirty-three counties in the major oil field area have produced about 99 7 percent of the state's total oil production; the remaining percent of the oil was produced in the colmar-plymouth field, some 40 miles north of Fishhook.
