This Finding List is a condensed catalogue of the books of the Library, arranged alphabetically by authors, under a few prominent subjects. Its object is to furnish the reader with the simplest and easiest method of finding any book, and to show him what the Library contains on any given subject. The card catalogue is arranged by author, title and subject in one continuous alphabet, giving the full names of authors, the full titles of books, with their imprints; while the Finding List gives only the names Of authors and condensed titles, in order to bring the whole into as small a compass as possible.
All new accessions made subsequent to the issue of this edition, and not contained in such supplements as may be hereafter printed, may be found in the card-drawers in the Registration Room. Supplements may be issued from time to time as purchases of books become important from their number or value.
To render the books arranged under the general subjects more accessible to the reader, the index contains many subdivisions of subjects which refer to, and will be found under one general head in the class lists.
