Excerpt from Federal and Local Legislation Relating to Canals and Steam Railroads in the District of Columbia, 1802-1903
Sec. 2. And be it further enacted, That as soon as the aforesaid sum of forty thousand dollars be subscribed, the said commissioners, or any five of them shall call a meet ing of the stockholders at the city of Washington, by advertisement in one of the news pers printed in Wash ington, Georgetown, and Alexan ria, appointing a fit and convenient time and lace of mestin and the said stock holders shall proc in person, or y proxy, to the elec tion, by ballot, of a president and six directors for con ducting the said undertaking, and managing the business of the com ny, for and during the term of one year from the time 0 their appointment.
