"The present book is a basic inventory of the climbing plant (climbers) families and genera of vascular plants that are found in the Neotropics. The completion of this publication has been arduous due to the fact that climbers are among the most poorly studied group of plants, due to the fact that they are difficult to discern, describe and collect. Their collections and descriptions often lack details of field characters and their biology, hindering the completion of this work, which has only been possible through the collective knowledge of field characters and diversity by the numerous specialists that contributed family treatments. A standardize terminology for anatomical and biological features based on recent revisions are here presented to foster better communication among climbing plant enthusiasts, students and specialists.
