Sometimes known as the prophet of faith, Habakkuk deals with a question that many yet struggle with: why does God allow the wicked to oppress his people? To many in the west, where church is more about being comfortable than being holy, Habakkuk's answer is startling. God is doing this because his people have pursued sin and deserve to be humbled. God also promises to punish the oppressor when the time is right, but God loves his own too much to allow them to go unchastised for their sin. In fact, it would seem that God is yet doing the same thing today, bringing trials and tribulations not to destroy the church, but to build her up.
