Publisher's Synopsis
Excerpt from Extracts of the Journals and Correspondence of Miss. Berry, Vol. 3 of 3: From the Year 1783 to 1852
Thursday, January 6th. Dined with Madame de Sta'el at half-past five o'clock, with Palmellafi and an aide-de-camp of the Prince Royal of Sweden, who had just landed. It was the same day that the news arrived of the entry of the Allies into Switzerland and France. One talked, thought, and breathed but of this news. I tried to persuade Madame de Stael to let us remain talk ing by her fireside, instead of going out in the cold to the play; but she had the Duke of Devonshire's box, and would take her Swedish aide-de-camp to the theatre.
