No income tax treaty is currently in force between the United States and India. A previous income tax treaty, which contained a tax-sparing provision, was signed on November 10, 1959, but never received the advice and consent of the Senate to ratification by the United States. The treaty was withdrawn from further con sideration by the Senate on June 8, 1964.
