Publisher's Synopsis

Wyndyke Furlong is the latest in a long series of archaeological investigations into the Iron Age landscape to the west of Abingdon. The site formed a northern continuation of Parrington's excavation at Ashville during the 1970s and revealed more of the large middle Iron Age settlement and early Roman field system. The complex plan of enclosures, pits and ring ditches have been interpreted with the Ashville results in mind and, therefore, this volume contributes not only to our knowledge of Ashville but also to our understanding of Iron Age activity in Oxfordshire. The environmental and finds analysis, particularly that of the pottery assemblage which included Bronze Age sherds, similarly complements and updates the Ashville results.
