Over 200,000 people died as a result of the National Socialist "euthanasia". The number of those who suffered irreversible psychological and physical damage through forced sterilization or inhuman experiments in the concentration camps and other institutions is even higher. The individual became a number, an undesirable part of the " Volksgemeinschaft ". Since 2017, the Rhein-Sieg district together with the LVR Institute for Regional Studies and Regional History has been researching the suffering of the victims of the Rhine and Sieg and the system that made them so in a broad study. Quite specifically, questions are asked about acts and perpetrators, but above all about those affected and their fates. Forced sterilization of the sick and the murder of people with psychological or mental impairments are in the foreground.
