The 41 European tapestries in the permanent collection of the Minneapolis Institute of Arts include rare masterpieces designed and woven in Belgium, France, Italy, Norway and Holland from the 15th to the 18th century. This book documents that collection. The text includes an introduction to European tapestry and an explanation of the basics of tapestry weaving, as well as an in-depth study of each of the individual pieces from both a historical and a technical perspective. Based on research in original archival sources, this volume brings to light recent information on the subject.
