Scarce in the dustjacket, a photographic design, showing the 'Bazaar Group' to its front panel (the plate also found within), with a portion of the frontispiece design repeated on the backstrip panel. Sketches of life in Iraq in the last years of the British mandate, the author 'engaged on intelligence work for the Royal Air Force in the Euphrates liwas' (Preface). The blurb to the dustjacket's front flap compares Britain's role with that of a schoolmaster, closing in description of the author's having 'emerged with his patience, his digestion and his sense of humour unimpaired'.
