The social work profession has long valued ethnic sensitive and culturally competent practice and policy. This is reflected in the National Association of Social Work's Code of Ethics, and the Council on Social Work Education's Curriculum Policy Statement. Social work practitioners know the importance of culture and ethnicity in the helping process with individuals, families, groups, communities and organisations. Theories of human development in social environment and all forms of practice are clearly interwoven with cultural implications. Whether taught through a specific course, or integrated throughout the curriculum, we recognise the significance of culture and try to assure that its content is appropriately addressed.
