Education being a social institution has cause and effect relationship with other social institutions like family, economy, polity, stratification, religion etc. This book is based on the underpinnings drawn from sociology of education that looks relationships between various social institutions a sub-discipline of sociology. Education exists in society in the form of a matrix of social relationships between various status-role p e r f o r m e r's l i k e's t u d e n t's , t e a c h e r's , administrators, parents, community etc. Health of education depends upon the status-role performance of these stakeholders. In this book an attempt is made to highlight the status-role of school teachers against the desired status-role guided by the principles drawn from sociology of professions another sub-discipline of sociology with particular reference to the state of Punjab. About the Author Author works in the department of school education, government of Punjab state of India. He has a keen interest in the affairs of school education as he is well versed with the significance of this institution in the health of the larger society. He is from sociological background and looks this institution from social perspective. He thinks that the root cause of many ills in the Indian society lie due to the step motherly treatment given to this institution with particular reference to the state of Punjab. He is a life member of Indian Sociological Society (ISS) and also a member of International Sociological Association (ISA). He has numerous research papers in national and international journals/books to his credit.
