De los buenos resultados obtenidos por el método de visuales horizontales á muy cortas distancias empleado forzosamente en los trabajos á que me refiero; se han dedu cido consecuencias exageradas: se ha intentado demostrar que por este sistema podía alcanzarse una exactitud muy superior a la que se obtiene en realidad; se ha propuesto emplearlo exclusivamente en todas las determinaciones de desniveles, aun en el caso en que, hallándose los puntos a largas distancias, no fuera indispensable conocer las dife rencias de altura de un gran número de los intermedios.
