Mr. Fry might have added, that the stress of the question lies upon the word when. The Pharisees could not have doubted that it was the purpose of God to establish a king dom, although they did call in question our Lord's claim to be the Messiah and the king of that kingdom. If the question be considered in connexion with our Lord's preach ing, and that of his disciples, or with that of John the Baptist, it will be seen, that the mere fact of asking the question, was Virtually a denial of the truth of our Lord's doctrine.
John the Baptist began his preaching in the wilderness, saying: Repent ye for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.
