Publisher's Synopsis

Sudan is blessed with abundant resources of both ground and surface waters. Unfortunately, the population is not distributed in the same pattern as are the water resources. The hydrologic cycle does not operate at steady-state. As a result, local water shortages have already occurred in most parts of the country and may be expected to increase in frequency and occur in other areas in the coming years. Thus, increasing importance is being attached to preparation of water use projects and the planning necessary to ensure that water demands are met in a manner that is both timely and cost-effective. In the following these problems are addressed specifically with respect to water supply systems serving communities. In addition, consideration is given to water conservation and its effect on water supply system. Although the principal thrust is toward small systems, some discussion of municipal water supply system design is necessary to present the pertinent design information in logical fashion.
