Publisher's Synopsis
This volume does not pursue the goal of finding the historical Jesus behind the Gospels. Rather, he wants to make the polyphony of New Testament memories of Jesus audible in the continuity and discontinuity of the traditions. Very different facets of his work are illuminated: Jesus in the early Jewish context, Jesus as the creator of incomparably concise sayings and parables, Jesus as a miracle worker and finally Jesus before the Roman court - perspectives that are surrounded in this volume by fundamental methodological questions on the one hand and christological ones ecclesiological perspectives and case studies on the other. The volume is published as a commemorative publication for the 65th birthday of the Bonn New Testament scholar Prof. Dr. Rudolf Hoppe emerged.
