In recent years there has been a dramatic increase in the use of VDUs. At the same time there has been growing concern about their effects on the health of users.;The bad effects of VDU usage can be minimised by appropriate design of systems, environment, etc, ie by due attention to the spectrum of ergonomic factors.;This report surveys the main areas that require ergonomic attention. Particular health hazards are identified, and emphasis is given to the importance of applying what ergonomic knowledge is already available.;The report is intentionally brief - to aid readability and to avoid the danger of quickly running out-of-date in a situation of rapid technological change.
