After the first edition, Erasmus brought several new editions of his Novum Testamentum, with an ever-changing collection of paratexts. This volume brings together editions of many of the accompanying texts of Erasmus' New Testament editions, including the Methodus, the Apologia, the Brief of and the dedication to Pope Leo X, the lists of corrections and misunderstandings of the critics of the Novum Testamentum, and the title pages. The introduction places the texts in their fascinating historical context. It shows that both a personal crisis of Erasmus and a crisis of his time partly shaped these paratexts.
