Publisher's Synopsis
Ten years after the 1st Eosinophil Workshop in Allergy and Related Diseases was held in Tokyo, this volume contains articles based on the presentations given during a second workshop held in June of 1997. During the intervening years, many discoveries concerning eosinophils have been made. These include cloning of the genes for eosinophil granule proteins such as MBP and EDN, isolation and characterization of the IL-5 receptor and cloning of its gene identification of cytokines generated and released by human eosinophils, understanding of the role of adhesion molecules in eosinophil recruitment and activation, and development of a new method for eosinophil purification. The Workshop, now held annually in Tokyo, has reflected these trends in research.;The articles in the volume show how current research is aimed at elucidating the eosinophil activation process at a molecular level and identifying the molecules on the surface of and/or within the eosinophil and T cells regulating eosinophil recruitment and activation.
