Publisher's Synopsis

Climate change is one of the greatest challenges facing humanity in the 21st century. Among the main culprits of this phenomenon is the United States, the second largest emitter of carbon dioxide (CO2) in the world, after China. According to the Global Carbon Project's 2020 report, the United States emitted 4.8 gigatons of CO2 in 2019, representing 13% of global emissions. These emissions come mainly from the energy sector, transportation, industry and agriculture (Ritchie, 2017). This research performed a characterization of the variable CO2 emissions and vehicle fleet, a normality test was applied to the data through the Shapiro Wilk analysis, a Pearson correlation test that resulted in a strong correlation of r=-0.8525. a future projection was made using the least squares model, year by year, from 2023 to 2030 resulting in the year 2024 CO2 emissions will be at 4530.6 Mt and will be reducing these emissions until 2030 up to 4,124.0 Mt.
