The relationship between poor women and the environment, their role in environmental management and the impact upon them of environmental degeneration are the central concerns of this book. It analyzes women′s experiences in the ecological process in the context of crop lands, common lands, forest and water resources, domestic energy, social forestry, urban environment and pollution. In doing so, on one level it identifies the role that women can play in activities relating to the environment, and on another it critically examines development programmes for gender bias.
