Publisher's Synopsis
Issues of environmental and energy regulation are of major importance to the transition economies of Central and Eastern Europe. Many of the problems the governments of these countries now face, such as liberalization of economic activities, macro-economic stabilization and European integration, have already been dealt with by countries in Western Europe. - - This edited volume brings together the latest research û from throughout the whole of Europe û on both environmental and energy regulation and on their interdependent relationship. It provides an overview of European environmental and energy policy, describes new developments in this field taking place in the UK and Germany and analyses the potential such developments have to be adapted in Central and Eastern Europe. Illustrated by original, in-depth surveys and new data, this volume shows that, while the Eastern transition economies have much to learn from the latest developments in the West, the differences in scale and the nature of the problems means that they will not be solved by simple imitation alone.
