Publisher's Synopsis

An energy management system (EMS) minimizes energy waste by controlling energy use throughout a building. Building owners install such systems to reduce operating costs. Despite the large number of systems in use, information on their performance - quantification of energy savings, for example, and the effects on building and utility system load shapes - is not generally available. The report describes the basic components and functions of an EMS. It relates each function to the type of building (size and end use) most likely to make use of that function and enumerates various design options.
