Publisher's Synopsis
Encyclopaedia of Advances in Manufacturing Technology emphasizes the fundamentals of manufacturing processes, their capabilities, typical applications, advantages, and limitations. Manufacturing technology provides the productive tools that power a growing, stable economy and a rising standard of living. The text Manufacturing Technology: Materials, Processes and Equipment introduces and elaborates on the field of manufacturing technology?its processes, materials, tooling, and equipment. It covers the basics as well as the most recent advances in manufacturing technology. First chapter examines the impact of the adoption of flexible manufacturing technology (FMT) on the technical efficiency of Malaysia manufacturing industry. In second chapter, we focus on nanomaterial production and downstream handling processes. Third chapter presents an outline of the developed welding equipment for nuclear fuel bundle fabrication and reviews a conceptual design of remote welding equipment using a master-slave manipulator. The objective of fourth chapter is to provide application specialists with the first knowledge about how the new technologies work and what can be expected from them. New technology for grids and scales manufacturing in optical devices has been introduced in fifth chapter. The aim of sixth chapter is to understand the influence of post-fabrication heat treatment on microstructure, hardness, wear, and corrosion properties of laser deposited Co-Cr-Mo alloy. In seventh chapter, a dynamic model is presented in which lean manufacturing is linked with technology by causal relationships. The objective of eighth chapter is to develop a distributed collaborative design environment for supporting cooperation among existing engineering tools organized as independent agents on different platforms. In ninth chapter, we show how overall equipment effectiveness (OEE) can be used to carry out a correct equipments sizing and an effective production system design, taking into account both equipment time losses and their propagation throughout the whole production system. Tenth chapter deals with materials handling in flexible manufacturing systems. The purposes of eleventh chapter are to investigate manufacturing technology used in the Thai automotive industry and examine findings concerning certain manufacturing technology dimensions. The aim of last chapter is to present different decision making approaches to choose an adequate RP process.
