Publisher's Synopsis
This book deals with problems of access to employment and housing in urban places in three developing countries ? Kenya, Thailand and the Philippines ? which differ considerably in terms of history, cultural setting, social structure and economic performance. The focus is on secondary urban centres which have approximately 150,000 inhabitants. On the settlement hierarchy these secondary urban centres are found on the levels immediately below the primate cities of these countries ? a category of urban centres which has long been neglected in urbanization research.
