Publisher's Synopsis
Acute myocardial infarction is the most common cause of death in the United States. Although significant progress has been made in reducing the devastating impact of AMI, the need for a concerted effort to reduce the mortality rates from AMI and acute cardiac ischemia (ACI) led to the creation of the National Heart Attack Alert Program, under the auspices of the National Institutes of Health. This handbook reports the results of the NHAAP Working Group established to evaluate the effectiveness of emergency diagnostic tests for ACI and AMI.
The technologies reviewed address the diagnosis of ACI because this is the condition that must be identified in the treatment of patients with AMI and potential AMI. Emergency Diagnostic Tests for Cardiac Ischemia provides a valuable summary of the NHAAP s findings, including a rating of the performance of key emergency diagnostic triage, treatment and outcome; and recommendations regarding the most effective diagnostic technologies. Concise and complete, this handbook will be of vital interest to all emergency personnel, cardiologists, and cardiac nurses.
