IN preparing for the press a second edition of my Elements of Medicine, I have gladly availed myself of the notices of the work contained in the journals at the time of its appearance. I take this occasion to acknowledge, with much gratification, their almost uni formly courteous tenor. I have endeavored to supply the defects pointed out, to remove redundancies indicated, and to correct such errors as were commented on by my friendly critics, or discovered on my own part after the most careful revision.
