Thin film materials are of increasing interest in many aspects of the electronics industry. This book constitutes the Proceedings of the Eighth International School on Condensed Matter Physics, which dealt with many aspects of such materials and devices. The Proceedings comprise 33 review papers by invited speakers from the industrial and academic sectors in Europe, the Americas and the Far East. These articles present an overview of specific areas of materials science and technology, as well as significant recent developments in each author's own field of specialism.
