El Retiro is a city in Colombia in the east region of the department (state) of Antio-quia and is where the composer presently resides. This composition, written by Mejia Vallejo and arranged by Guillermo Gonzales Arenas is a Bambuco. A Bambuco is an original folk music form that is very popular as a Colombian national dance and is associated with the many music festivals celebrating Colombian traditions. EL RETIRO is a band arrangement of the kind of Bambuco that is often played at concerts throughout Colombia.
