Publisher's Synopsis
Excerpt from Eighth Annual Report of the Secretary of the Massachusetts Board of Agriculture: Together With Reports of Committees Appointed to Visit the County Societies; With an Appendix Containing an Abstract of the Finances of the County Societies, for 1860
In discharging their duty, the Commissioners desire the aid and counsel of those interested in agriculture. With a very few exceptions, they have found the farmers immediately affected by the disease, prompt to act in its suppression, and ready to impart any information necessary to a thorough accomplishment of the work. The advice and sympathy of many of the agricultural societies have been given through their agents who have visited the spot. Liberal contributions have been made to a guaranty fund, to provide against any delinquency which it seems impossible should occur in the action of any future legislature toward compensating the sufferers from this terrible calamity.
