Publisher's Synopsis

Ginkgo biloba extract (EGb 761; trade name Tanakan) has been part of the French therapeutic arsenal since 1975. It has since been registered in the following European Community countries: Germany, Switzerland, Spain, Luxembourg, Greece and Ireland (soon to be followed by Italy), and is also available in some 30 other countries worldwide.;In 17 years, knowledge of this drug has progressed in parallel with basic research, thus providing a means of devising new approaches and considering new mechanisms of action. EGb 761 was initially presented using the concept of triple vasoregulation.;More recently, a novel direction for research has emerged which suggests an action on cerebral plasticity. This volume is dedicated, in particular, to the efforts of the latter research.;The objective behind the organization of an international meeting on EGb 761 at Montreux (Switzerland) on 20 April 1991, was to evaluate several new research papers relating to the cerebral action of EGb 761. The present publication constitutes the proceedings of this conference.
