"You shouldn't have looked into the well, Aaron."
A cold sweat broke across his forehead. He hadn't told anyone he was playing this game. He'd only downloaded it hours ago, alone in his apartment.
"How do you know my name?" Aaron typed, his thumbs slipping across the screen. "What happened to you, Jack?"
The response came almost instantly:
"I became part of it. And now it knows you too."
The lights in his apartment flickered-once, twice-before stabilizing. Aaron's eyes darted to his computer screen, where "Whisper in the Void" remained open despite his attempts to close it. The pixelated town now showed a figure standing in the distance, motionless, watching. It wasn't part of the original game design. He was certain of that.
