Publisher's Synopsis
It is the early 1920s on the Devon coast. Devastated by her unrequited love for childhood playmate, Laurence Chesterton, vivacious and headstrong Veronica Blakeney finds solace in her marriage to Nicholas Ellis, the handsome new choirmaster of Deremouth Abbey. The golden days are short-lived however, for while Nicholas loses himself more and more in his music, Veronica's other loves - her ailing father and the family bakery - are in dire need of her help. With the death of her father, it seems there is no one she can turn to for help in keeping the business running. The only person who offers support is Merrick Clampton, her arch rival. But can she be sure of his motives?
