Publisher's Synopsis
Inside Earth, at the very centre of our planet, is a solid inner core made up of iron and nickel. A thick, extremely hot molten rock layer known as the outer core covers the inner core. Surrounding the outer core, is another sphere of heated rock, called the mantle. No one has visited Earth's interior or even pierced Earth beyond a few miles, so how do we know so much about what is happening deep below us? This book tackles that complicated question, explaining the science behind our understanding of the core and mantle, and how they impact the other Earth spheres.
