Publisher's Synopsis

Collection of four British films produced by Ealing Studios. 'Eureka Stockade' (1949) is set during the 1850s Australian gold rush as miners struggle bitterly for basic working rights. In 'Take a Chance' (1937) the wife of a successful racehorse trainer falls for a young man who, unbeknown to her, has a hidden agenda - a desire to learn her husband's horse training secrets... In 'The Gaunt Stranger' (1938) a lawyer receives an alarming note promising that he'll be dead within a few days leading to a frantic police investigation to catch the would-be killer. Finally, 'Play Up the Band' (1935) tells the story of a brass band's attempts to transcend their humble origins by making it to an illustrious contest and stars Stanley Holloway.
