Publisher's Synopsis
The book provides a brief historical overview of Cypriot and Maltese relations with the EU and contrasts the current Mediterranean enlargement of the EU with the previous one that included Greece, Spain and Portugal. It analyzes the two applicants' political and economic aims from a small state perspective, the challenges they face in adjusting to acquis communautaire, the similarities and contrasts in their national perspectives as well as the way their membership application is viewed by the EU.
