The book describes special features of wave processes in elastic media and classic methods of analysis of failure in the conditions of shockwave loading. Contradictions between the traditional theoretical models and experimental results are analysed. Attention is given to a new structure-time approach which is a continuation of classical principles of the linear mechanics of fracture and which makes it possible to analyse from the single viewpoint different effects observed in experiments with high-speed fracture of solids.
