Two editions of these two 'open letters' appeared in Venice, the present (without printer), and one printed by Vincenzo Valgrisi: neither narrows the date down beyond the year. The Valgrisi edition is a completely different setting, is in Roman type, and has the printer's device on the title: but the collation is the same.Giulio "Delminio" Camillo (ca. 14801544), best known for his L'Idea del Theatro (which, like all his works, was published posthumously) was a famous man in his time, though he did make enemies, Erasmus and Dolet among them. He was invited to Paris by Franois Ier in 1530 to develop the ideas which ultimately were published in L'Idea del Theatro. But the king lost interest (the money stopped), and Camillo returned to Venice in 1543, dying a year later.'In the Parisian affairs, C. intervened again, in this period, with two Orations addressed to Francis I: the first written for the release of the "preacher" Pallavicino, Carmelite theologian, imprisoned for a year for "vulgar sermons", and the second in thanksgiving for the obtained liberation' (translated from Treccani). Whether the sermons were simply in the vernacular, or of another stripe, we are unsure.
