Publisher's Synopsis
The Advisory Council on the Misuse of Drugs (ACMD) was established by the Misuse of Drugs Act 1971 with the duty to keep under review the problems of drug misuse and to advise Ministers on ways of dealing with them. This report on drug education in schools has been prepared by a Working Group of the Council. It starts by examining the scale of the problem and the role that schools can play. It then describes the present situation and suggests how schools might organize their programme of drug education. It includes the role of parents and outside agencies such as police liaison officers, and examines the provision of training for teachers. Finally it summarizes key points and makes recommendations for the future.
