Publisher's Synopsis
Excerpt from Draft of an Answer to the Dissent and Protest?: Of Certain Ministers and Elders Who Have Seceded From the Synod of Canada in Connexion With the Church of Scotland, by the Committee Appointed by the Synod
No evidence is furnished in support of what is here stated But even were it admitted that doubts existed, on some of the bear ings of the connection, this would surprise no man who re?ects, that it is often difficult to define precisely the shades of obligation and distinctly to state the respective interests of Bodies, which stand in either a civil or ecclesiastical connection, and yet ar not incorporated. But the relation of the Synod to the Churel of Scotland, if not by formal enactments, is at least by so well defined that there hang no doubts over it which plex any enlightened and honest mind. The Synod has declared by every mode in which such declarations can be made, tha in all things spiritual she is uncontrolled, that she has now and ever has had an independent ju1 1sd1ct1on, and' shall continue tr exercise all the spiritual functions of an independent Church'. I this be equivocal, it may well be asked - what 15 clear?
