Publisher's Synopsis
The elder of twins born in North London, life for Peggy Ellard and her brother was not easy from the word go. Money was short, accommodation cramped and the abrupt departures of a father and elder brother were neither questioned nor explained. Life went on. After leaving school at 14, Peggy held a number of clerical posts and, two months after the Blitz started, was evacuated to a small Lincolnshire village where she was greeted as a "refugee". After many hardships, Peggy found happiness with the start of a relationship that was to last for more than 50 years and produce four sons.
