Max Bruch wrote this concerto at the age of 73 for his son Max Felix, a gifted clarinettist. It is in the style of his extremely popular Violin Concerto in G minor, composed more than 40 years earlier. This concerto is also available in a version for Solo Violin and Solo Viola.
