Excerpt from Doctor in the Schools: Being Notes on the Medical Inspection of Public Elementary School Children Under the Education (Administrative Provisions) Act, 1907
The object of this paper is to place at the disposal of School Managers, Teachers, and others interested in educational administration, a few notes based on some years of medical inspection of Elementary School Children; and also to aid Medical Officers newly appointed under the Education (administrative Pro visions) Act, 1907, in formulating schemes of inspection. Any opinions here expressed are not to be taken as official.
I have the good fortune to live in one of those areas -forty-seven in number, outside the Metropolis - whose education authorities had realized that their powers to provide for the medical inspection of their school children involved an important public duty, and had acted accordingly, some years before the recent legisla tion rendering medical inspection compulsory from january Ist, 1908.
