Excerpt from Dissolved Gases in Glass
On cooling the glass, these gases should remain in solution, and glass in the finished state may therefore be expected to contain appreci able quantities of these dissolved gases. Since no actual data concern ing the nature or amounts of such dissolved gases were available, the experiments described below were undertaken for the purpose of throwing some light on this question. These experiments are to be regarded as preliminary to a more extended investigation of 'these dissolved gases, and Of their in?uence upon the properties of the finished glass, and its behavior during use.
